Internationally, Peace Corps, an international volunteer body that has been instrumental in the distribution of English education in Burma, announced on April 18 that it would close its office in Burma.

"The closure of the office is underway due to the inability to arrange for the safe return of volunteers due to armed conflict and instability following the military coup in Burma," said the Peace Corps chief executive.

Volunteers will resume in Burma when conditions allow them to return safely. The group focused on English education with nearly 90 volunteers in Burma from the time it opened its office in 2016 until the recall of volunteers from around the world in the 2020 to 2020.
