House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that the US House of Representatives will vote on a $40 billion military and humanitarian aid package for Ukraine on Tuesday night (May 10). The bill is anticipated to pass the House and then the Senate in the coming days, before heading to the White House for President Joe Biden's signature, assuaging worries of a military aid cutoff to Kyiv.

Biden requested an extra US$33 billion in aid for Ukraine 10 days ago, but legislators increased the amount to US$39.8 billion by adding more military and humanitarian help to Biden's request. "This package, which builds on Congress's strong support, will be critical in assisting Ukraine in defending not just its country but democracy across the world," Pelosi said in a letter to House members advocating swift ratification.

Biden's Democratic colleagues, who control the House and Senate by a razor-thin margin, as well as Republicans, indicated they supported the Ukraine help.
